Dulux has been forced to limit paint purchases after a surge in demand due to lockdown renovations.
The company introduced a strict limit on the number of items that can be bought after they were flooded with orders.
Only tester pots can now be purchased online – and there is even a strict limit on those.
A message on the Dulux website reads: “We are now taking new orders for testers only via this website, however to manage continued exceptional demand, we are limiting the number of orders taken each day.
“If our daily capacity has been reached you will see a message displayed when trying to add items to your shopping cart, and we ask you try again the next day.”
Last week the company had to suspend shipping on tester paints completely as Britons made the most of working from home with DIY projects.
A message on the company’s website read: “We’re sorry. Due to overwhelming order volumes we have suspended taking further orders today. Please try again tomorrow.”
This comes after homebase said its timber sales for items like fences were double last year’s levels.
Those trying to get their hands on mini versions of the brand’s paint saw the message several days running last week.
The boom in orders is thought to be related to lockdown, with more people keen to give their home a makeover.
A spokesman for Dulux said: “Due to lockdown and people continuing to spend more time at home we have seen high demand for our testers and paints, as people take the time to tackle their DIY tasks.
“As a result we have seen a significant increase in demand for testers year on year.
“We’ve been gearing up our business to best support the increased demand and make it as easy and clear as possible for consumers to order with confidence while ensuring our teams can work safely.”
DIY projects have seen a mejor surge during lockdown with three in five 18 to 34-year olds and over half of 35 to 54 year olds picking up tools to improve their home, according to research from Aldermore.
Painting, along with decorating with wallpaper, has been one of the most popular pursuits during life indoors.
Over a third of those surveyed said that they had undergone the renovation projects, while over half said they had taken up gardening, making use of the summer weather.
