Though Confident Curves Showroom in Carthage has only been open for a brief time, for hometown gal Marredia Roberts, the dream of owning her own business began a lifetime ago.

“I’ve always been very passionate about inspiring people,” she said, while wearing a stylish orange blazer and trendy bell bottom jeans, completing the look with a blingy belt. Many might not be bold enough to try the look, but for Roberts, style and fashion embodies her.

Opening the business in Carthage was a bold move in itself — and one that Roberts went back and forth on several times.

“I realize I might be more profitable in Longview or Marshall, but I wanted to open the business in my hometown,” she said.

Confident Curves Showroom, located at 442 W. Panola St., is a stylish, trendy boutique that strives to make women of all sizes feel good about themselves.

Whether shoppers are looking for clothing for work, relaxing or going out, Roberts has just what women need and want.

“People are surprised when they come in,” she said. Welcoming shoppers is an elegant space with a greenery wall, signs about positive self image and cushy couches to sit on while shopping with friends and family.

Though the store offers clothing from size small to 6X, the boutique caters to plus size women.

Toying with the idea of opening the store online only, Roberts ultimately decided to open a physical location so women would have the opportunity to just walk in and grab something before a night out or a special event.

“Many fashion buyers don’t want to do the research to find the cute plus size clothes,” she said. “I’m all about getting cute items for women.”

Currently, some of Roberts favorite pieces are a t-shirt dress that can be dressed up or down and a long-length jean jacket with embellishments.

According to the store owner, she attempts to carry a variety of pieces that can be worn more dressy or more casual depending on what accessories are paired with them.

Graduating from Carthage High School in 2006 and then moving on to graduate from St. Edwards University in 2011, Roberts always knew she wanted to be her own boss. In college, she graduated with a degree in kinesiology to become a coach and teacher. However, as soon as she graduated, her passion changed.

“I love making others feel good,” she said.

When her followers and supporters encouraged her to open Confident Curves Showroom, she knew she had to follow her dreams and passions. She also operates AshRoq Financial in Carthage.

“My followers are excited to see us open a physical location,” she said. The decision to return to Carthage was made because she wanted to raise her children in a small town just like her upbringing.

“However, I told myself that the only way I would return here is if I could be my own boss,” Roberts said. “It’s empowering as a female to own your own business. It’s letting others know whatever they want to do, they can do it.”Even though she was anxious about opening the boutique, with a little confidence and the support of people, Roberts is excited what the future holds for herself and two employees.

The store is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. They are closed on Sunday.
